Alaskan Fairy Tale

ONCE there was a senator from Alaska that had to go and speak to the President, and in order to make himself appear important, he said to him, "I have the Arctic Wildlife Refuge, and when you drill, it you will find all the black gold in the world."

The President said to the senator, "That is a resource which pleases me well. If your Arctic Wildlife Refuge is as rich as you make it to be, let me drill it and I will exploit it."

For many a year, twenty-five to be exact, the senator did his best to get the President the promised gift. But year after year passed by without success, until one day in 2005 when the senator from Alaska had an idea that pleased him mightily. That night many a visitor reported seeing a strange scene up there on CAPITOL HILL, where the fox and the hare bid each other good night. There in front of a big house, a fire was burning, and round about the fire, quite a ridiculous little man was jumping. He hopped upon one leg, and shouted -

Today I fake, tomorrow brew,
I stick the exploration bill for drilling
to my military billing
And without much ado
I'll finally have me this important
bill go through.
I will it, and I'll drill it.

On the day of the important vote in 2005, the little man came in, and asked his republican senators, "What is YOUR vote?" At first they said, maybe, then probably, and then somewhere from within the crowd, one heard loud and clear the awful word “FILIBUSTER" being said. Now that word made the little man very mad.

"The democrats have told you that! The democrats have told you that," cried the little man, and in his anger, he plunged his right foot so deep into the earth that his whole leg went in, and then in rage, he pulled at his left leg so hard with both hands that he tore himself in two.

One can only wish that fairy tales do come true.
